Activating Pro
BoxCart Pro ships as a separate plugin build. To unlock Pro features on a site, download the Pro zip from your Freemius customer account and upload it over your existing Free install. There's no licence key to copy-paste — the zip activates itself.
BoxCart's free build is distributed through WordPress.org. WordPress.org rules don't allow plugins to accept a licence key to unlock features. Instead, the paid features ship in a separate Pro zip that you download from your Freemius customer account — your licence is pre-baked into the download.
Activation Steps
-
Sign in to your Freemius account
Go to customers.freemius.com/store/14420 and sign in with the email you used at checkout.
-
Download the Pro zip
Open the Licenses page. Next to your BoxCart Pro licence, click the download icon. You'll get a file named something like
boxcart-premium-1.0.0.zip. -
Upload it to WordPress
In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. Select the Pro zip and click Install Now. When WordPress asks whether to Replace current with uploaded, confirm.
-
Activate (if prompted)
If the plugin shows as inactive after replacement, click Activate Plugin. Your products, orders, locations, and settings are untouched — only the plugin code files are replaced.
-
Confirm Pro is active
Go to BoxCart → Account. You should see:
- Version: 1.0.0 — Premium version
- Plan: your plan name (not "FREE")
Previously Pro-locked items in the sidebar (Activate License, Upgrade) disappear.
What's Preserved
Uploading the Pro zip replaces the plugin code only. Everything else stays intact:
- All products, categories, and featured images
- All orders and customer accounts
- All locations, opening hours, and time slots
- All settings (General, Payments, Styling, etc.)
- Page assignments (Products, Basket, Checkout, Account)
Once Pro is running, new Pro-only options simply appear inline in the existing settings panels — there's nothing extra to reconfigure unless you want to use the new features.
Troubleshooting
Version says "Premium" but Plan still says "FREE"
This means the Pro code is running but the licence hasn't attached to this site. It happens if you uploaded a generic Pro zip rather than one downloaded from your customer account, or if the licence hasn't synced yet. Fix:
- Click Sync License on the BoxCart → Account page and wait a moment.
- If that doesn't help, click Activate License on the Account page and paste the licence key from your Freemius customer portal (the key is shown alongside the download link).
- If it still shows Free, re-download the zip from your customer account (this version always has the licence pre-attached) and upload it over the current install.
I run WordPress Multisite
BoxCart supports network activation. Upload and network-activate the Pro plugin from My Sites → Network Admin → Plugins. Your site-count entitlement applies across the network.
I've hit my site limit
From your Freemius customer account you can deactivate BoxCart Pro on an old site to free up a slot, or upgrade your plan to add more sites. Both actions apply immediately.
My licence expired
The plugin keeps working indefinitely on an expired licence — Pro features don't lock themselves overnight. You simply stop receiving new updates until you renew. Renew from your Freemius customer account.
Once Pro is installed, future BoxCart Pro updates arrive through the standard WordPress Plugins screen. You don't need to manually download new zips from Freemius each release.
